National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP)/Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS)

What is NIAP/CCEVS?

NIAP manages the U.S. national program that evaluates Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) IT products for compliance with the international Common Criteria. This program includes the NIAP-managed Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS), which develops Protection Profiles, evaluation methods, and policies to ensure that security requirements are practical, consistent, and testable. The Common Criteria is an internationally recognized ISO standard (ISO/IEC15408) used by governments and other organizations to assess the security and assurance of technology products. Common Criteria provides assurance that the process of specification, implementation and evaluation of a computer security product has been conducted in a rigorous and standard manner.
