About NetApp

Leading organizations worldwide count on NetApp for software, systems and services to manage and store their data. Customers value our teamwork, expertise and passion for helping them succeed now and into the future.

Overview

NetApp offers two different data-at-rest encryption solutions for securing data within their infrastructure. Both solutions support the OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) for managing the storage and use of keys, thus providing a seamless integration with Thales TCT’s KMIP-compliant key management platform.

solutions

  • NetApp Cloud ONTAP: Key Management and Thales CipherTrust Manager

Thales CipherTrust Manager for NetApp Cloud ONTAP is a hardened, 64-bit, virtual security appliance that provides centralized key management and data access policies for NetApp Cloud ONTAP. Thales key management simplifies the operational challenges of managing encryption keys, making sure keys are secure and information is always available to authorized users across your NetApp Cloud ONTAP environment.

Thales CipherTrust Manager maintains data confidentiality on NetApp Cloud ONTAP through efficient centralized key management and by enforcing customized security policies surrounding data access. This combination of a modern storage infrastructure and Thales key management delivers the peace of mind that your data and its encryption keys are protected against unauthorized access, while simultaneously making the most efficient use of your storage investments.

Thales CipherTrust Manager centralizes all key management activities, including key signing, role-based administration, quorum control, backup and distribution of encryption keys, and an optional hardware root of trust using Thales Hardware Security Modules or Amazon CloudHSM service.

Meeting compliance mandates in the cloud is greatly simplified through verifiable and auditable enterprise key management all keys, certificates, and passwords are securely managed; key ownership is clearly defined; and key lifecycle management is logged to provide a non-repudiative audit trail.

  • NetApp Unified Data Management Solution
NetApp is a data authority for hybrid clouds. The company provides a full range of hybrid cloud data services that simplify management of applications and data across on-premises and cloud environments to accelerate digital transformation. Together with partners like Thales, NetApp empowers global organizations to unleash the full potential of their data to expand customer touchpoints, foster greater innovation, and optimize their operations.
  • NetApp: AltaVault Cloud-Integrated Storage with Thales CipherTrust Manager

NetApp creates storage systems and software that help customers store, manage, protect, and retain one of their most precious corporate assets: their data.

NetApp is recognized for continually pushing the limits of today’s technology so that customers never have to choose between saving money and acquiring the capabilities they need to be successful. NetApp offers several applications that integrate with Thales StorageSecure and Thales CipherTrust Manager to provide users with powerful storage and archive solutions.

  • NetApp NAS Storage: Storage Encryption
NetApp and Thales have partnered to provide advanced encryption services based on high-speed, 256-bit AES encryption and featuring redundant components and clustered failover for high reliability.
  • NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE): Key Management and Thales CipherTrust Manager

Thales CipherTrust Manager offers a secure, automated, centrally managed system that can store and manage data encryption keys in NetApp storage environments, as well as hundreds of encryption appliances and endpoints. Thales CipherTrust Manager is compatible with the NetApp NSE solution which leverages self encrypting drives.

Thales CipherTrust Manager is a next-generation drop-in replacement for the NetApp LKM appliance.

  • NetApp E-Series and Thales CipherTrust Manager
NetApp E-Series hybrid and all-flash storage products are found in enterprise SAN environments such as big data analytics, technical computing, video surveillance, and backup. High performance, reliability, and flexible configuration allow E-Series products to address a wide range of workloads, from high-IOPS or bandwidth-intensive streaming applications to mixed workloads delivering effective consolidation. NetApp and Thales have partnered to offer customers a secure, automated, centrally managed system to store and manage data encryption keys in NetApp storage environments, as well as hundreds of encryption appliances and endpoints through Thales CipherTrust Manager key management platform. Thales CipherTrust Manager is compatible with the NetApp E-Series storage arrays which leverage self-encrypting drives.
  • NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE) and Thales CipherTrust Manager
Thales CipherTrust Manager offers a secure, automated, centrally managed system that can store and manage data encryption keys in NetApp storage environments, as well as hundreds of encryption appliances and endpoints. Thales CipherTrust Manager is compatible with the NetApp NVE solution which provides the ability to leverage volume level encryption.
  • NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE) and KeySecure for Government

NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE) utilizes industry-standard self-encrypting drives (SEDs) for implementing full-disk encryption. NSE is a nondisruptive, hardware-based encryption solution that is cost-effective, transparent to the user, and simple to deploy. When used with Thales TCT’s KeySecure for Government for key management, NSE securely stores the authentication keys used to unlock the SEDS in a FIPS 140-2 Level 2 or Level 3 certified device that can centrally manage all keys across an enterprise.
